Jeff's Bio

Jeff - Bass Guitar

Hi. I'm not into writing this stupid bio but I have to.

Jammed! is the first and only gigging band I've been in.  About 10 years ago I picked up a bass on a whim after pretty much having given up on guitar, and fell in love with playing bass.  I found that trying to learn guitar and stand out among people that have played most of their lives wasn't very productive.  But it looked like most people playing bass only did it because somebody had to do it.  Bass is the perfect outlet for me (or as the saying goes, there is a seat for every ass). For what it's worth, there is an ass for every seat too.

I play by ear and have no technical knowledge.  Bella Fleck says he plays that way.  Once I found that out I stopped paying attention to the theory evangelists.   Playing by ear has huge advantages when jamming or playing with new people or fudging the 1000's of songs everyone carries in their heads.

If there is a nude beach within range I've been there.  Is there anybody out there?

Just a little about the equipment: I set aside the 4 string, a pristine Ernie Ball Musicman from Mark’s Guitar Loft [Lee, NH].  On stage I have a gorgeous Carvin XB75, a long scale 5 string.   Only bad thing is it wicked heavy.  Also, I have a Steinberger Synapse 5 which is nice and light but just doesn't sound or look as good as the Carvin.

On stage I have a Gallien-Krueger 700RB II into Carvin 2x10 and 18” cabs.  This is a great rig but is a pain in the ass to transport and set up so now I use an Acoustic B20 for home and practices.  This is a sweet little bass amp, best one there is for short money.   Also, I'm using a Carvin UX1000 wireless that's totally awesome.  I always use Etymotic ER9 ear protection or use Carvin EM900 in-ear-monitors.  I love the in-ears but the Carvin is a noisy, not that you notice it once the music starts. The ear buds are not particularly comfortable either.

And I have a MySpace site, Jeff of Jammed!

Have fun.

 Jeff
